Staff score predictions for Clemson’s massive road matchup vs Florida State

Clemson and Florida State have both fallen well short of expectations this season, but Saturday night’s matchup in Tallahassee still carries plenty of intrigue as the longtime ACC rivals look to get things back on track.

The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 ACC) are hitting the road for the first time in more than a month, looking to bounce back from a frustrating 20-16 loss to Virginia Tech. Clemson appeared to be in position to secure another conference victory before the Hokies scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final two minutes.

True freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds continues to gain valuable experience, but Clemson’s offense has struggled to find consistency. Reynolds completed 20 of 26 passes for 153 yards against Virginia Tech, although four sacks made things difficult for the young signal-caller.

Florida State (3-4, 1-3 ACC) enters the matchup coming off a bye week, giving the Seminoles extra time to prepare. Before the break, FSU pushed No. 1 Miami to double overtime in a 43-35 loss, with quarterback Ashton Daniels accounting for five touchdowns.

Recent history favors Clemson, which has won nine of its last 10 meetings with Florida State. However, with both programs searching for answers, neither team can afford to take anything for granted.

Saturday’s contest kicks off at 7 p.m. ET at Doak Campbell Stadium, with ACC Network carrying the broadcast.

Can Clemson continue its recent success against the Seminoles, or will Florida State defend its home field? Here’s how our staff sees Saturday night’s matchup playing out.

Alex Turri: Clemson 17, Florida State 21

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney talks with Clemson quarterback Tait Reynolds (2) after he threw a ball out of bounds during the second quarter at Memorial Stadium Saturday, October 24, 2026.

While Florida State’s defense has been one of the worst in college football this season, Clemson’s offense is doing the same thing. For me, this game comes down to which unit can step up and played just a little better than their norm. Unfortunately, I think the Seminoles’ defense is more likely to rise to the occasion.

You need to be able to throw the ball in college football to truly succeed, and Clemson just can’t do it. Road loss for Dabo Swinney and the Tigers.

Steve Holley: Clemson 19, Florida State 23

Clemson's offense hasn't been able to find the end zone more than once in either of its last two ACC games. Florida State has given up plenty of yards -- 434.9 per game this season, which ranks eighth from last in all of FBS. It's hard for me at this point to trust this Clemson offense for long drives that end in six points. Expect a close and competitive game like most Clemson-FSU matchups, but simply put: I trust FSU's bottom-of-the-barrel defense more than Clemson's bottom-of-the-barrel offense.
