Rugby fans have called for a lengthy ban after a nasty stamping incident left supporters stunned during a match in Wales.

Ebbw Vale's Curtis Gregory was shown a straight red card during his side's clash with Llandovery.

The incident came in the first half, with Gregory sent off after a stamp on an opponent at the breakdown.

And judging by the reaction online, few were rushing to defend him.

Footage shared by S4C soon began doing the rounds, with fans left shocked by what they had seen.

Ebbw Vale were forced to play the rest of the match with 14 men.

"Absolutely disgusting"

Rugby journalist Robert Rees did not hold back.

He wrote: "Absolutely disgusting stamp."

He then added: "Needless, reckless and vile cheap shot. Deserved red."

And he was far from alone.

One fan wrote: "Thats one of the worst stamps ive seen. Awful. Should be a very lengthy ban."

Another added: "That's absolutely grim."

A third simply said: "Very Dirty."

One supporter feared the Llandovery player could have suffered a far worse injury.

"That was horrible. Fortunate that Llandovery forward didn't have a career ending injury."

Even an Ebbw Vale supporter appeared to have little sympathy.

They wrote: "Disgusting and not even the most bias Ebbw Vale supporter should have any complaints about a lengthy ban."

Lengthy ban on the cards?

The red card could be just the start of Gregory's problems.

He may now face a disciplinary hearing, with fans already calling for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Rees also pointed to a previous head-stamping case which resulted in a four-match ban last season.

Whether that offers any clue to Gregory's fate remains to be seen.

One thing is certain. This is not the sort of footage Welsh rugby wants doing the rounds.

And the disciplinary panel, should the case reach one, may have a few questions to ask.
