The rival clubs challenged the penalties imposed after their Scottish Cup quarter-final in March, which ended 0-0 before the Hoops won a penalty shootout.
An independent appeal hearing began early on Monday, but deliberations are understood to be continuing on Tuesday. Written reasons will be sent to both clubs, with the final outcomes made public later.
The match saw supporters from both sides enter the pitch as fights allegedly broke out and pyrotechnics were thrown. Gers ultras were seen running on to the pitch wearing face coverings.
The Scottish Football Association imposed a full stadium closure for each club’s next home match in the competition and ordered £100,000 in compensation to the away team.
Suspended sanctions of the same measures were issued. They would apply if either club’s supporters engage in “unacceptable conduct” during another Scottish Cup fixture.
The SFA charges followed a 37-page dossier by expert Mark Blackbourne. The clubs had been punished after fans from both teams entered the pitch and disorder followed the final whistle.
Celtic described the sanctions as “disproportionate”, with both clubs launching appeals.
The game was the first time in seven years that Celtic received Rangers’ full Broomloan Stand, with about 7,500 away supporters present.
Dozens of arrests have been made in connection with the scenes. Away supporters are unlikely to return to Old Firm derbies for the foreseeable future.
