Anthony Munda, Ollie Clarke injured for Swindon Town

Amid the jubilant scenes after Swindon’s 3-1 victory over Barnet, a first away win since March, there was some concern about Anthony Munda.

The midfielder, who had been a key part of that win with his energy in midfield, went down off the ball in the final ten minutes, and with Swindon having already made all five substitutes, he was able to tough it out until the final whistle.

Munda was evaluated ahead of the trip to Bristol Rovers this weekend, and he is going to go for a scan after hyper-extending his knee, and it has since swollen.

The extent of the injury is not yet clear, and so he will go for a scan to evaluate what needs to happen next.

Swindon were hopeful that they would get the experience of Clarke and Dan Butler back in time for their visit to the Memorial Stadium.

After starting every game of his time at Swindon so far, Butler sat out against Walsall and Barnet with an undisclosed niggle, with the idea that he could manage the issue and be ready for Rovers.

Clarke has had a season of being in and out of the side with small issues, and missed out on Tuesday night with a hamstring issue.

Ian Holloway took his captain off after an hour against Walsall as he was in pain, but, like Butler, the hope was that he would be ready to take on his boyhood club.

It has now been confirmed that he has a hamstring tear, and will be missing for five to six weeks, in a big blow to Swindon’s midfield options.

Butler will be available, as will Jack Thomson after he had a brief scare after Barnet, but Town will be short for his partner.

Joel McGregor will also be in a matchday squad for the first time this season, having recovered from the ankle injury he suffered during pre-season.

Swindon’s running stats were at their highest point this season against Walsall and Barnet, which demonstrates that people are getting back to fitness, but may leave some tired legs for this weekend, and more rotation is likely.

Joe Snowdon and Matty Virtue are both candidates to replace Munda in midfield, whilst James Debayo and James Ball are both capable of stepping forward from defence.
