Ellie Kildunne handed brutal player rating as Red Roses lose again to Canada
imago1084942911h

Ellie Kildunne was among the England stars to receive a brutal assessment from RugbyPass after the Red Roses suffered another painful defeat against Canada.

John Mitchell's side lost 31-22 in Ottawa, their second defeat in as many weeks against the same opponents.

The result marks the first time since 2016 that England have lost back-to-back Tests. Not exactly the response Mitchell had in mind.

As RUCK reported earlier this week, Kildunne was dropped to the bench, with Emma Sing preferred at full-back.

The England star was introduced in the second half as Mitchell searched for a way back into the contest.

However, the changes failed to have the desired impact.

It was a grim night across the board, with not a single England starter scoring higher than 5.5/10 in RugbyPass's player ratings.

Canada pile more misery on England

England made a bright start, with Maddie Feaunati crossing for the opening try.

But Canada soon found their feet, with captain Sophie de Goede leading the charge.

The hosts hit back through Julia Omokhuale and De Goede before England regained the lead early in the second half.

Amy Cokayne powered over from a driving maul to give the Red Roses fresh hope.

However, Canada had other ideas.

De Goede grabbed her second try, while DaLeaka Menin and Savannah Bauder also crossed as the hosts took control.

Sing scored a late consolation try, but the damage was already done.

The defeat came in front of 13,170 supporters at TD Place.

Following the match, captain Megan Jones insisted the Red Roses were not broken by their latest setback.

England's worst performers

Three England starters were handed just 4.5/10 by RugbyPass following the defeat.

Mia Venner – 4.5/10

A tough night for the England winger.

Venner managed just one carry and missed two tackles. She did make 12 tackles and win a turnover, but barely had a chance to show what she could do in attack.

Jess Breach – 4.5/10

Breach produced England's only clean line break, but that was about as good as it got.

The Saracens star carried just three times and struggled to get involved.

Lilli Ives Campion – 4.5/10

The young lock certainly put in the hard yards.

She made 23 tackles, but was caught out at the ruck for one of De Goede's tries.

Ellie Kildunne among replacements criticised

Kildunne was introduced from the bench as Mitchell searched for a way back into the contest.

However, England's replacements struggled to make their mark, with Canada continuing to dictate the game.

RugbyPass handed the replacements a collective 4.5/10, with the publication critical of their lack of impact.

The rating covered the entire bench, including Kildunne, rather than being an individual score.

It was a sharp contrast to Canada's replacements, who received 8/10 after helping the hosts pull clear.

England's best performers

Nobody exactly covered themselves in glory, with 5.5/10 the highest mark awarded to any England starter.

However, a few players emerged with some credit.

Sarah Bern – 5.5/10

One of England's better performers.

The Bristol Bears prop made 19 tackles and seven carries during her 50 minutes on the pitch.

She also helped England maintain a solid scrum, one of the few areas where Mitchell's side enjoyed success.

Amy Cokayne – 5.5/10

Cokayne gave England hope with her second-half try.

The hooker was solid at the set-piece and did her best to keep the Red Roses in the contest.

Sadia Kabeya – 5.5/10

Another player who certainly put in a shift.

Kabeya made 18 tackles and 11 carries, although she struggled to make her usual impact with ball in hand.
