Patriots tight ends Henry, Raridon stepping up at perfect time

The Patriots might have one of the NFL's best tight end duos.

It's no secret the New England Patriots are not getting enough production in the passing attack from their wide receivers.

The team's Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears was a perfect example. Starting quarterback Drake Maye played really well aside from one bad interception. He threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, but only 87 of those yards and none of those scores went to wide receivers.

A.J. Brown caught three passes for 48 yards. DeMario Douglas tallied three receptions for just 23 yards. Efton Chism III hauled in one pass and Kyle Williams had zero.

But the Patriots still scored 24 points and had a chance to win because other players stepped up. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson led the team with five catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

The tight ends also played a pivotal role.

Hunter Henry led the team with seven receptions, along with 71 receiving yards on seven targets. Five of his catches resulted in a first down, including a clutch pickup on third-and-7 during the Patriots' first drive of the second half that ultimately ended in a touchdown.

The player who scored the touchdown on that drive was Raridon. He beat his defender in the middle of the field and hauled in a 30-yard score.

Raridon finished with three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown on five targets.

Strong production from Henry and Raridon was not the beginning of a new trend. These guys have been producing for a couple weeks now after a sluggish start to the season, and their resurgence has been a key factor in New England's improvement on offense since its blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

Here's a look at Henry's production in the first three weeks of the season compared to the last four.

  • Weeks 1-3: Seven receptions, 71 yards, zero TD
  • Weeks 4-7: 19 receptions, 225 yards, two TD

And the same for Raridon, who did not play in Week 3 due to injury.

  • Weeks 1-3: Two receptions, 32 yards, one TD
  • Weeks 4-7: 10 receptions, 136 yards, one TD

Henry has been one of Maye's most trusted targets since the star quarterback made his debut in 2024. After catching only one pass for five yards in the loss to the Jaguars, Henry has tallied at least 40 receiving yards in each of the four games since. He currently ranks 11th among all tight ends in receptions (26) and receiving yards (296), fifth in yards after catch (171) and seventh in total EPA (27.61).

Raridon has impressed, too, after the Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. His 2.13 yards per route run ranks fourth-best among qualified tight ends (minimum 75 routes), per Sumer Sports. The only tight ends ranked ahead of him in that stat are George Kittle, Dalton Kincaid and Brock Bowers.

Henry has earned Pro Football Focus' 11th-highest offense grade (74.2) among tight ends through seven weeks. Raridon is 15th (72.5). They are one of two tight end duos in the top 15 of PFF's offense grades. Raridon's 80.8 receiving grade from Pro Football Focus is the highest of any rookie tight end. The next-closest is Houston Texans rookie Marlin Klein with a 70.9 receiving grade.

The Patriots need Henry and Raridon to keep producing at a high level because with Brown working his way back from a high ankle sprain, and veterans Mack Hollins and Romeo Doubs both on IR, it's unknown how much production the team will get from its wide receivers in the near term. Several of these wideouts have been very inconsistent this season.

Sunday's matchup is a favorable one for Henry and Raridon.

The Miami Dolphins defense is giving up the fifth-most receptions and fourth-most receiving yards per game versus tight ends this season, so it wouldn't be surprising if Henry and Raridon continue to play important roles for the Patriots pass offense for a fifth straight week.
