Stephen Curry leaves Jimmy Butler in stitches after embarrassing Luka Doncic
Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler were left in stitches after Luka Doncic was left on the floor

Steph Curry left Golden State Warriors teammate Jimmy Butler in stitches after flooring Los Angeles Lakers rival Luka Doncic.

The Warriors beat the Lakers 112-95 in the NBA Cup to level their 2026 record at 3-3, with Curry scoring a team-high 31 points for Golden State as the team rallied for a 25-point comeback. In the third quarter, the Warriors trailed the Lakers 69-60, needing a hero to step up and spark a revival.

As many times before, Curry stepped up. The No. 30 dribbled the ball wide to the left of the Lakers' rim with Doncic following his every move, before the Slovenian lost his footing and fell to the floor.

Curry proceeded to hit a three-pointer to narrow the Lakers’ advantage to six. The crowd roared, while Curry put his hands on his head in disbelief.

As for Warriors star Butler sat on the bench. He was left in stitches. After Curry returned to the bench, the pair could be seen laughing together.

However, despite the momentary embarrassment, it didn’t stop Doncic from scoring a game-high 37 points. The forward is averaging an impressive 36.2 points through six games thus far this season, and the Lakers are sitting at 4-2.

It was an impressive win by Golden State. "What I would tell you guys is that 25, you know, it's the new 12," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "These games happen nightly in the league. I watched the Utah-Laker game today prepping.

“I think Utah was up 19 at the end of the first quarter and then the Lakers tied it by half. With the pace and the 3-point shooting, there's just these wild swings, and you just have to stay with it."

Ahead of the game, Doncic’s newfound rivalry with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg dominated the news cycle. The pair were embroiled in a recent war of words.

"Them boys had my back today," Lendeborg said. "Steph Curry did his thing."

"There were people on the bench calling him [Curry] a sicko," Lendeborg continued. "I don't even know. It was astonishing."

"We have his back through all of that, and knowing that the next game, we're going to need him," Curry said.

"It's all about the theme of him learning trial by fire, going through the ups and downs in front of everybody. It's a tough demand, but I think he's built for it."

It was the meeting between the Warriors and Lakers this season. Los Angeles won the season opener 127-105.
