Avro beat Hyde United to reach FA Trophy second round

Not long into the match, Hyde United had a great chance to take the lead early on from a free kick.

Dan Gardner took the free kick, sending a rocket straight towards the bottom left corner, but Jon Vilar Robinson was there to make the save.

Unfortunately for the keeper, the ball deflected off him and into Brad Roscoe, who slotted the ball into the net for 1-0.

Two minutes after Hyde took the lead, Avro had a great chance to equalise as Benito Lowe leapt above everyone in the box to win the ball in the air.

He directed the ball onto the post, where it bounced and looked to have crossed the line, but the referee disagreed with the Ro’s players, letting the play continue.

Around the 20th minute mark, Darren Ehimamiegho played a brilliant through ball through a gap in the Hyde defence for Jacob Holland-Wilkinson, who controlled the ball, charged into the box and calmly slotted the ball past Jordan Eastham at his near post for the equaliser.

With the referee about to blow for half-time, the ball was crossed to the edge of the Hyde United box for James Simms, who, with his first touch, lifted the ball off the ground and curled it into the bottom right corner for the goal to put the Ro ahead for the first time this match.

In the 54th minute, both Benito Lowe and Harry Salt had a chance to extend the Ro’s lead.

Firstly, Benito Lowe had a go from outside the box, aiming for the bottom right corner, and Jordan Eastham saved his shot, but he was unable to keep the ball under control as it deflected off him and into the path of Harry Salt, who attempted to volley the ball into the net.

Unfortunately for the Ro’s number 10, he got a poor touch on the ball during his shot, so the ball strayed wide of the net, leading to a goal kick.

A minute after this chance, Hyde looked to have taken the lead through a corner as one of their players narrowly got a touch on the ball on the line to knock it in for 2-2, but the linesman’s flag was up for offside, which Hyde unsuccessfully protested to the referee.

In the 72nd minute, Benito Lowe was battling with Brad Roscoe on the halfway line as the ball came flying over them, and just as Lowe was about to break free from Roscoe’s grip, Roscoe dragged the Ro’s captain down to the ground, leading to a foul.

This foul led to Hyde’s number 5 receiving his second yellow card of the day and getting sent for an early shower.

With two minutes left of the match, the Ro had a set piece on the edge of the box.

The ball was whipped into the box, and Avro substitute Cameron Firth managed to beat everyone in the box to get his head on the ball, but he was unable to keep it down and accidentally sent it over the bar.

After this chance, Hyde began to press the Avro box looking for an equaliser and send it to penalties, but the Ro held strong, earning the win and a plumb tie with Chester to be played on Saturday, November 14.
