Falkirk manager John McGlynn has backed goalkeeper Scott Bain to establish himself as Scotland's No1 between the sticks after producing the 'game of his life' to earn his side a stunning 2-0 win over Celtic.
Bain has been in top form this season, and was at his very best once again as he pulled off a string of outstanding stops to keep the defending champions at bay, with Ethan Ross and Scott Tanser finding the net for Falkirk at the other end.
The 34-year-old was called into new national team boss Sebastien Pocognoli's squad for the recent Nations League quadruple-header, but had to settle for a place on the bench, with Angus Gunn given the nod.
But McGlynn believes the former Celtic shot-stopper has done more than enough to earn an opportunity to add to his four Scotland caps when the next round of international fixtures comes around later this month.
He said: 'I don't want to take anything away from the outfield players but Scott Bain had the game of his life.
'I've been pushing Scotty for a while because I know how good and calm and good with his feet he is.
'Everything you want he'll deliver. Wherever you are, he can't go unnoticed. He could easily be doing a job for Celtic but I'm delighted we've got him and he's producing the goods which can only help us going forwards.'
McGlynn was delighted with his side's overall display which delivered a fourth Premiership victory on the bounce.
The Bairns are now up to fourth in the table, and have the chance to leapfrog Hearts next weekend when they take the trip to Tynecastle.
'Huge credit to my players,' he said. 'It was a remarkable shift.
'It was a great start. To get a goal so early is beyond your wildest dreams because you're usually chasing the game.
'We defended well and defended set plays and he [Bain] was there to save or punch.
'There was [good] football in there. It was a great second goal and Scotty [Tanser] hasn't been in the mix and hasn't played a lot.
'For him to come in and have the calmness to slot it away... I'm delighted. There's a great opportunity for him on that side.
'Huge compliments to every player. The subs had to go on and continue what the players had been doing which was working really hard and they did that.
'Four wins on the bounce, three clean sheets in a row. Ecstatic.
'The boys have been doing great in these weeks. We've had some sore ones losing late goals.
'There's been a togetherness that's taken us to another rung of the ladder and they've gone the extra mile for each other. Today will increase our determination and desire to get better.
'It's been building. There were signs. We've been in every game.
'It's going to give them a huge boost. At the start we had some big fixtures which is difficult when you're putting a team together.
'We had the confidence going into this game and we'll go to Tynecastle with a lot of confidence, [but] Hearts have been exceptional there.'
The win was Falkirk's first in ten fixtures against either half of the Old Firm since their return to the top flight last summer, and the manager admitted he was pleased to finally get the monkey off their back.
'It was one of the boxes left to tick,' he said. 'Thankfully we've done that.
'Last season over 24 points against the Old Firm we got two, when we drew with Rangers twice, so we're already a point better off. Hopefully there are more points to pick up.'
