Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez is back in training ahead of the game against Sunderland this weekend.
The Daily Mail claim that the Argentinian international is “pushing” to replace Mike Penders in goal for the fixture on Sunday afternoon.
Supporters on X are split on whether Martinez should be recalled straight away, with many keen for him not to be rushed back, especially after Penders impressed against Manchester United:

When the keeper broke his jaw against Everton just under 3 weeks ago, it was estimated that it would take between 6 and 8 weeks to fully heal.
It means that, while Martinez is training, he is wearing protective strapping on his jaw, and it will be up to manager Xabi Alonso to decide whether he is fit enough to be selected for the game at the Stadium of Light.
The 21-year-old responded well after his error effectively cost Chelsea the game against Tottenham last month. His performance during the 2-0 win over United was a notable improvement.
A lot will depend not only on whether Alonso thinks Martinez is ready to make his comeback, but also on the Spaniard’s confidence in Penders.
If he does decide to risk Martinez against Sunderland, it won’t be a good sign for Penders in the long run.
Keepers need to have the trust of their managers, and as we have seen with Robert Sanchez already, Alonso can be ruthless. After failing to impress against Fulham on the opening day, he was swiftly loaned out to Como.
It means that whoever Alonso names in the starting lineup this weekend will get a big, resounding endorsement from their manager.
