NFL star kicks and floors ref as furious viewers cry the game is rigged over outcome
A Detroit Lions star kicked a referee and sent him to the floor, but wasn't punished

Amon-Ra St. Brown’s kick toppled an official in the third quarter of the Lions’ 20-17 win over the Packers on Sunday, and by the end of the afternoon many viewers were convinced the game was fixed.

The play came with Detroit trailing 14-10 early in the second half. On a short completion to St. Brown, Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie went to tackle him, and St. Brown was still up with the ball in play.

In the scramble, an official got caught up in the action, was kicked by St. Brown, and went down on his back. He threw a flag from the ground for unnecessary roughness on Green Bay, which moved Detroit 15 yards closer. Meanwhile, an NFL star suffered a devastating leg break weeks after recovering from blood clots in lung.

Jameson Williams scored on the drive, a 10-yard touchdown pass that put the Lions up 17-14.

Viewers were furious. “You can tell this game is rigged!!! Calling nothing on the lions,” one fan wrote. Another said, “If you still don’t believe that pro sports are rigged you need to go back and watch the Packers Lions game.”

A third called it “some of the worst officiating I’ve seen in years,” adding, “No wonder why people think the NFL is rigged.”

Green Bay was also flagged for a roughing-the-passer call on Brenton Cox Jr. This pass interference call wiped out rookie Brandon Cisse’s interception, an unnecessary roughness penalty on Devonte Wyatt that set up Detroit’s earlier touchdown drive, and a late hit by Derrick Barnes.

On the other side, Detroit was flagged for a false start on the winning drive, and an illegal double-team block on a kickoff, and Williams was ruled out of bounds on a fourth-down catch in the end zone that would have given the Lions a two-score lead.

Detroit’s defense made the difference. The Lions held Green Bay to 17 points, forced a turnover on downs, and got a pass breakup from Cisse, as well as an interception by Brian Branch, who returned from an Achilles injury, in his season debut.

D.J. Wonnum blocked a 35-yard field goal attempt by rookie Trey Smack, who also missed a 26-yarder, and Jake Bates won it with a 22-yard field goal as time expired.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs deliberately stopped short of the end zone on the final drive so the clock would run down.

Goff threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns, St. Brown had nine catches for 153 yards, and Gibbs ran for 116 yards.

For Green Bay, Josh Jacobs made his season debut after his time on the commissioner’s exempt list and caught a touchdown pass. Detroit moved to 4-2, and the Packers fell to 4-3.
