Everton saw a summer return of Richarlison collapse, but the Brazilian’s situation at Tottenham has far from improved since then.
In the summer, with Everton needing a striker, it looked as though Richarlison was certain to return to the club, but the deal collapsed. In the end, Richarlison didn’t join due to money and was unwilling to compromise his huge wage packet at Spurs.
Tottenham were not happy with Richarlison for this, and he was not registered by the club, meaning he has spent this season playing U21 football. There is talk of the transfer being attempted again in January, with Duncan Ferguson keen on Richarlison returning.
Spurs have made it abundantly clear to Richarlison that he isn’t going to be involved under Roberto De Zerbi, and therefore, he should be looking for a move in January, when Everton conveniently are looking for a striker.
David Ornstein, talking on The Athletic FC podcast, has spoken about this situation, claiming there is no chance of Richarlison getting reintegrated at Spurs.
“Richarlison is not in the squad, is he? Spurs, so my information is that both parties are working to try and find a solution for Richarlison to continue the next stage of his career away from Spurs. So let’s see what happens on that in January.
“But I don’t know of him having a future at Spurs or the possibility of reintegration.”
This completely opens the door up for Everton to swoop in and get the Brazilian on a free, potentially, or on loan. Hopefully, he has dropped his wage demands to be in line with the rest of the squad, with a large chunk freed up from Jack Grealish, as he could return to Manchester City.
It has the potential to be an excellent signing for Everton and brings everything the club needs. He should also be hungry to do well and prove De Zerbi and Spurs wrong for how he has been treated.
He would certainly get a positive reaction on his return if he made the switch.
As far as January striker additions go, Richarlison could be sensational for the Toffees. He brings a wealth of experience in the Premier League and a proven track record of scoring goals for Everton.
In 152 games for the club, he scored 53 goals and assisted 15, which is as good a record as you will see from almost any Everton forward this century.
He could help Barry improve, play off the bench or start, and also offers versatility with his ability out wide. This feels like a no-brainer for Everton to get done.
