Celtic Starting XI vs Celta Vigo Martin O’Neill Makes Shock Change

Martin O’Neill has named his Celtic starting XI to face Celta Vigo in the Europa League at Celtic Park tonight.

The Hoops go into the match needing a result after losing their opening two league phase fixtures against Ferencvaros and Benfica.

Sunday’s 7-1 win over Hearts lifted the mood around the squad, but Europe has been a different challenge so far and Celtic know they need points on the board quickly.

O’Neill is expected back in the dugout after missing pre-match media duties on Wednesday due to a personal matter, with Shaun Maloney stepping in to speak to the press.

Celtic have a few defensive issues to deal with going into the game.

That means Liam Scales and Dane Murray are likely to carry major responsibility again, with Colby Donovan continuing at right-back after an impressive spell in Johnston’s absence.

Maloney admitted in the build-up that Celtic are still trying to work out the best midfield structure for European games, saying it is “not so much the individuals” but the way the team is set up around them.

Callum Osmand is another major talking point after scoring twice on his first Celtic start against Hearts.

The youngster came off at half-time on Sunday as a precaution, but said before this game that he feels fine and is hoping to make an impact again.

Jota remains unavailable for Europe, with the winger not included in Celtic’s Europa League squad due to his injury situation when the list was submitted.

Celta Vigo arrive with former Celtic defender Carl Starfelt in their travelling squad, although the Swede is ruled out through injury.

The Spanish side have also lost their opening two Europa League games, so both teams come into this under pressure.
