Week 8 NFL MVP Power Rankings: Smith-Njigba continues to impress

Six weeks of NFL action are complete, and several stars are still for the year-end NFL MVP Award. But with just one-third of the season wrapped up for most teams, much remains to be decided on the gridiron. Let's look at the players currently leading the race for the league's top individual honor.

Smith-Njigba continues to perform at unprecedented levels this season. This past week, the Seahawks toppled the undefeated Chiefs, and their star wide receiver caught nine passes for 150 yards and one touchdown in the win. He now leads the league with 867 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns.

This one is a massive jump, as he was outside our top five last week. But truthfully, we probably should have had him up here sooner. He continues to play about as well as you could hope, and he threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Packers. He is yet to throw an interception this season, but is top 10 in the league with 1,788 passing yards and 14 passing touchdowns.

3. Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers

Purdy faltered this week in his first truly disappointing performance of the year, throwing two interceptions as the 49ers lost their first game of the season. But one bad performance doesn't run a season, and he still has 1,748 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns for what looks like one of the best teams in the NFC this season.

Allen didn't play last week as the Bills enjoyed their bye. But a couple of understated performances were enough to keep him at No. 4 in these rankings. He currently has 1,504 passing yards, 240 rushing yards, and 17 total offensive touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Bills have just one loss and sit atop the AFC East with a comfortable lead.

5. Kenneth Walker III, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

Walker still looks like the league's best running back this season, but the Chiefs dropped a 17-point loss to the Seahawks last week, and Walker's performance didn't help his MVP case; he posted just 36 rushing yards and no touchdowns. But his 701 rushing yards are second in the league, and his 5.8 yards per carry are first in the league.
