Jakub Mensik has withdrawn from the Paris Masters after suffering a head injury during his second-round match with Adrian Mannarino at the Vienna Open.

Late in the second set of the clash, Mensik fell and hit his head on the indoor hard court surface and required medical attention after the tumble. He ultimately lost the match against the Frenchman in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.

Following the fall, the Czech star took to social media to update fans on his injury and explain his withdrawal from the last ATP Masters 1000 event of the season

Jakub Mensik announces his Paris Masters withdrawal

In a post on X, Mensik said: “Hello everyone, Unfortunately, following a fall during my match in Vienna, I suffered a head injury and had to undergo some medical examinations. Following medical advice, I’ve been recommended to rest and allow myself enough time to recover properly, which means I won’t be able to compete at the Rolex Paris Masters next week.

“I’m really disappointed to miss such an important tournament, but health always comes first. My focus now is on making a full recovery and hopefully being back at 100% for the Davis Cup at the end of November, our last big challenge of the season. Thank you all for your messages and support. It really means a lot. See you soon!”

Mensik’s withdrawal from the Paris Masters means he is no longer in contention to qualify for the ATP Finals. The 21-year-old was 13th in the race to Turin, where the year-end tournament is held, and was bidding to qualify for the first time in his career.

Four players have already confirmed their spot in the ATP Finals: Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton and Daniil Medvedev. There are just four places left, and as it stands, Flavio Cobolli, Arthur Fils, Frances Tiafoe and Rafael Jodar will make the cut.

Jannik Sinner will not be in action at the ATP Finals, having ended his season early due to a knee injury. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is in pursuit of qualification, but his early exit in Basel means he now requires a lengthy run at the Paris Masters.
