‘He Should Be on Top,’ ‘He Has Every Advantage’ — NFL Insider Has a Bone To Pick With Adam Schefter Over Jonathan Taylor Trade Update

NFL insider Josina Anderson took issue with one specific word in Adam Schefter’s update on the Jonathan Taylor trade sweepstakes.

After Schefter posted that the Indianapolis Colts “now are open to trading Jonathan Taylor,” Anderson subtly pushed back: “The Colts are not ‘now’ open to trading RB Jonathan Taylor.”

Notably, Anderson’s own report on what the Colts want for their star RB went up on her Substack on Friday, Oct. 30, a day before ESPN reported that Indianapolis is open to offers for the All-Pro back.

Josina Anderson Subtly Calls Out Adam Schefter for Jonathan Taylor Trade Update

Josina defended her timeline on breaking the story. She detailed the order of events: “My JT post was the day before from info heard 2 days before that.”

However, a fan took notice with a comment that stated, “Adam Schefter owns you. If y’all need real sources, follow Adam.”

She responded: “He (Adam Schefter) should be on top… he has every advantage and luxury afforded him; and of course he works hard too. But when I was a D1 athlete, I always wanted the best on the field… go figure out what that means.”

Her Friday report fits the window she described. She wrote: “I was told over the last 48 hours that the Colts have discussed wanting a 1st-round pick and desire for a defensive tackle in exploratory compensation talks in exchange for RB Jonathan Taylor with at least one team, per league source.” She added: “Some have considered that asking price too high.”

Per Schefter’s ESPN story, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, the team’s owner and CEO, steered internal discussions following the Colts’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and those talks produced Tuesday’s deals involving Quenton Nelson, a Pro Bowl guard, and DeForest Buckner, a Pro Bowl defensive tackle.

On Oct. 27, the same day as those moves, Schefter said Irsay-Gordon was against dealing Taylor. However, his Saturday report represented a significant shift from that position.

Anderson responded that “a desire for a 1st-rounder and a defensive tackle was discussed as of earlier this week.”

Notably, both reports indicated Indianapolis had discussed Taylor compensation with other teams, though Schefter and Ian Rapoport described Saturday’s talks as active and ongoing with multiple clubs. Their sources said Indianapolis would want a package similar to the second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-round picks the San Francisco 49ers sent the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey in 2022.

Their sources also put the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Vikings, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks among the teams thought to have shown at least some interest.

Any team that lands him would inherit base salaries of $15 million in 2027 and $9.46 million in 2028, while Indianapolis has already paid his $15 million signing bonus. Taylor hasn’t requested a trade, but on Thursday he said: “You may get to stay somewhere forever, but you understand the business side of it.”

Taylor is still on the active roster of a 2-5 Colts team that sits second in the AFC South. He is expected to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Nov. 10 trade deadline is nine days away.
