South Africa National Cricket Team captain Temba Bavuma has touched another milestone in his Test cricket career. In the ongoing Test match in Cape Town, the middle-order batter completed his 4,000 runs in the longest format of the game.

He touched the record at the moment when the team was yet again under pressure against the Australia National Cricket Team in the ongoing three-match Test series. To survive the match and the series, the South Africa cricket team will look to get a stellar knock from their leader.

Temba Bavuma has completed his 4,000 Test runs

According to the stats, Temba Bavuma touched the 4,000 Test runs as the second-slowest among eleven South Africans to reach the 4,000 Test runs milestone, after Mark Boucher. Bavuma needed 119 innings to complete the amount of runs. He is also one of the oldest to achieve the record for the national side.

When he got his 4,000th Test run, Bavuma was 36 years and 165 days old, second oldest after the former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis. Plessis achieved the same when he was 36 years and 168 days old.

On the 17th over of the second innings of the ongoing Test, Temba Bavuma completed the four thousand runs in the Whites off the Australian skipper and pace bowler Pat Cummins by guiding the ball towards fine leg for a single. In the ongoing match, which is the last of the series, South Africa was in a commanding position in the first session of the first innings.

South Africa needs Temba Bavuma to win the match and the series

Later, by making some changes in the bowling tactics, the Aussies came back into the contest strongly to restrict the hosts from scoring free-flowing runs. The Cape Town track, which is on the slower side, has been testing the patience of the batters of both teams by some margins.

Batters like Josh Inglis, who scored a century for Australia in their first innings when the surface had lost its freshness, and Alex Carey, who supported Inglis to stitch a crucial partnership, showed that scoring runs is possible on the track if the batters can maintain patience and proper technique. Temba Bavuma is kind of the batter who contains all of the necessary elements to play well on this track.

A tight match between South Africa and Australia

After winning the toss, Pat Cummins elected to bowl first. It was a surprising call as the wicket had barely any grass on it; the day was nice and sunny, and all conditions were favorable for the batters. Cummins explained that he chose to bowl first only to use the moisture of the pitch.

The home team started well with their openers Aiden Markram and Marques Ackerman. Ackerman missed his century by five runs. South, in their first innings, registered 329 runs, and Australia, in their first, got 429; a 100-run lead for the visitors. The winner of the match will claim the series as well.
