The centre-back later shared a deeply emotional message on social media paying tribute to his dad, describing him as his role model and saying he would forever be proud to wear the Trusty name on the back of his shirt.

Speaking to The Herald, Scales made clear that Trusty will have the full backing of the Celtic dressing room when he returns.

He said: “We haven’t seen him, but I think when we do, we’re going to have to get around him as well, and it’s a horrible time for him.

“It’s bigger than football. I know that’s hard to appreciate sometimes, but he needs to take as long as he needs to do what he has to do.

“Once he’s back, he’ll have the full support of all the boys because it’s tough for anyone to go through that. We need to rally around him and really help him through.

“We’re seen as footballers but we go through the same sort of things in life that the fans go through. It’s obviously tough for him right now, but once he’s back, we will be there for him.”

That was a thoughtful response from Scales at a difficult moment for his teammate.

Glasgow, UK. 8th Mar, 2026. Rangers played Celtic in the Scottish cup quarter finals at Ibrox stadium, Glasgow, Scotland. The final score, decided after extra time and on penalties was Rangers 2 – 4 Celtic. Celtic now go on to the next round. The game was marred by a pitch invasion of both Celtic and Rangers supporters that required a significant number of police and security staff to control and regain order. Trusty is dealing with something far bigger, and Scales’ comments show the players understand that. The message from the dressing room is simple: whenever Trusty is ready to come back, he will have people around him.
