Bruno Fernandes accuses media of ‘lies’

Bruno Fernandes has broken his silence again, this time after Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 Champions League win over AS Roma.

Bruno Fernandes accuses media of ‘lies’

Bruno Fernandes has accused sections of the media of spreading lies about Manchester United following their extraordinary 3-2 Champions League victory against AS Roma.

The Red Devils produced a remarkable second-half comeback at Old Trafford, ending a nine-match winless streak that had placed Michael Carrick under enormous pressure.

Roma appeared destined for victory after Matias Soule and Donyell Malen established a two-goal advantage inside 17 minutes.

However, Fernandes sparked United’s revival by converting a retaken penalty in the 58th minute.

Matheus Cunha subsequently scored twice in four minutes, with Shea Lacey assisting the winner as United completed a sensational turnaround.

Fernandes delivered an influential performance, creating five chances and completing 46 of his 53 attempted passes.

The Portuguese midfielder also registered 15 line-breaking passes.

However, the United captain’s relationship with Carrick has attracted considerable controversy in recent weeks.

Following October’s humiliating 4-1 defeat against Como, Fernandes publicly questioned the manager’s pressing tactics.

Carrick subsequently dropped his captain against Bournemouth, leaving him on the bench throughout United’s 3-0 defeat.

Reports later suggested that the pair had held clear-the-air talks at Carrington, supposedly putting their differences behind them.

Now, Fernandes has challenged the accuracy of those reports.

Bruno Fernandes hits out at media reports

Speaking following United’s victory over Roma to TNT Sports, Fernandes addressed the speculation surrounding his relationship with Carrick.

“We’ve been working so hard to get out of this situation altogether,” he explained.

“It’s been tough, there’s been a lot of speculation in the media, a lot of lies around many things that have happened in this club.”

Fernandes specifically questioned claims that he and Carrick had needed to resolve their differences through private discussions.

“Between me and the manager, that we had cleared the air, then after, nothing of that happened.”

The midfielder also addressed his omission against Bournemouth, acknowledging that his performances had not reached the required standard.

“The manager took a decision of making myself be on the bench because I wasn’t performing at that sphere.”

He added: “Everyone felt that that was a punishment for the words that I had. If it was, it was right.”

His comments raise questions about previous reports suggesting a disagreement between the captain and manager had required formal intervention.

Nevertheless, Fernandes appeared determined to focus on United’s recovery following a memorable European victory.

With Aston Villa visiting Old Trafford on Sunday, Carrick will hope his captain can build on an influential second-half display.
