Hornets plan jersey retirement ceremony for franchise legend Muggsy Bogues

The Charlotte Hornets made a special announcement Tuesday, revealing that they will retire the jersey of franchise legend Muggsy Bogues. Bogues, who spent 10 seasons with the franchise, wearing the No. 1, will have his jersey retired February 11th when the Hornets host the Milwaukee Bucks.

Bogues is the franchise's all-time leader in steals and assists. The former Wake Forest guard is second in minutes and games played in franchise history. A former selection from the Hornets in the 1988 NBA expansion draft, Bogues will be the third jersey retired in team history, joining his former teammate Dell Curry, whose jersey was retired during the 2025-26 season. The Hornets also retired the No. 13 for Bobby Phills, who suffered a tragic death during his playing career with Charlotte.

In 632 career appearances with the Hornets, Bogues averaged 8.8 points, 8.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals. He also played for the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors throughout his 14-year NBA career.
