The Valkyries' Aminata Gueye had the last laugh after Golden State defeated Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream in Game 7 of the 2026 WNBA Finals.
In the Dream's 97-71 Game 3 win, Reese was spotted taunting Gueye at the end of the blowout, with the star spotted making a "too small" gesture at the Valkyries center while stating that she was a "bum." In that particular matchup, Reese had her way with Golden State, notching 21 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.
Since that point, it has been a rallying cry of sorts for the Valkyries, with the team making it clear they did not forget Reese's actions in the aftermath of the historic WNBA Finals win in just their second season, setting the bar for how well an expansion franchise should play.
In the hours after the win, Gueye took to social media to post a five-photo carousel reflecting on being part of a championship-winning team. The first four photos showed a celebration with her teammates, including WNBA Finals MVP Gabby Williams, and on-court scenes as confetti rained down.
The final photo of her carousel was just a zoomed-in image of Reese's fingers making the "too small" gesture. To add insult to injury, Gueye made sure to recall that moment between herself and the Dream superstar as she had the last laugh after a highly competitive series.
"THANK YOU @valkyries , I’M GRATEFUL FOR LIFE," her post began, with a purple heart. "ps : last slide is how much i care about ALL the s--- ppl been talking. #bumwithaRING."
It was not just the 24-year-old who took Reese's gesture and comments to heart. Throughout the game, Gueye and Juste Jucyte were shown making the gesture at certain points, while star guard Tiffany Hayes was on social media and also clapped back at the Dream superstar.
Golden State Warriors star rookie Yaxel Lendeborg also did the gesture at Reese, showing just how those around the organization had rallied around the 24-year-old's act toward the Valkyries. As for Reese, it must be noted that after recording a double-double in Games 2 and 3, the Valkyries effectively shut her down for the rest of the series.
Though she averaged 12.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 blocks in the final four games of the series, Reese only scored 9.5 points per contest. Additionally, the 24-year-old only shot 26.7 percent from the field, connecting on just 25.0 percent of her 3-point attempts, showing how the Valkyries' defense made sure to shut down Reese.
For context, in the first three games of the series, Reese averaged 21.7 points on 56.4 percent shooting from the field and 75.0 percent from the 3-point line, with 13.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks.
Speaking to reporters after the series loss, Reese gave her immediate thoughts on her experience with the Dream and making it to the pinnacle of the sport.
"I always say delayed not denied," she said after the 68-63 Game 7 loss. "This is only Year 3. I know they have many years to go. I would go to war with this group all over again."
She added, "I'm really proud of the year I had. To come all the way to the finals with this group says a lot.
"I would do it all over again with this group. I love these girls. I love the coaches. Our fanbase at home poured into us so much. We're grateful and we will be back."
