Tottenham Hotspur Women defender Alice Sombath has settled into life in England after a slow start in North London. The 23-year-old joined in the summer from Lyon, where she won the 2021 Champions League. A small preseason knock delayed her start, but she finally made her debut at Crystal Palace last month. She has since made four more appearances at the back.
Looking back on those early weeks on the sidelines, Sombath admitted the wait to get started was tough. She said:
“I was a bit injured at first, so it was hard for me. Then, I made my debut against Crystal Palace, and I was really excited to play and get out on the pitch.”
She added that the squad has been very welcoming and noted that every point is vital in such a tough league.
Every point certainly counts this Saturday when Tottenham host Arsenal at 12:45 pm. After a strong start that saw Martin Ho named Manager of the Month for September, the Lilywhites have slipped up in two recent October games. Even so, Spurs sit fourth in the table and five points off the Champions League spots. A win over their rivals would put their campaign straight back on track.

Saturday’s clash will also be the first time Sombath plays at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Speaking ahead of the game, she said:
“I have never played in this stadium, so I am excited to see how big it is, how the supporters are going to be loud and cheer us on.”
