Watch the match highlights as Nigeria take on Uganda at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier C 2026.

Nigeria secured their spot in assertive fashion, winning five from five on home soil, while Uganda finished second with four victories of their own.

The pair had already confirmed their progress before meeting in a showdown against each other on the final day, and it was Nigeria who lifted the trophy thanks to a one-run win off the final ball on Nigerian Cricket Federation Oval No.1.

Nigeria posted 148 having been put into bat, with Isaac Danladi scoring 47, though the target was in the crosshairs of the Ugandans, with Riazat Ali Shah's 60 from 35 balls putting them in the driver's seat.

Nigeria were on the back foot at the start of the final over with just six to win off the last six deliveries for Uganda, though it was Nigeria's Sylvester Okpe who stepped up as the hero.

Okpe did not start the last over, but had to complete the work of Vincent Adewoye, who limped off with injury.

Uganda required three to win and two to tie from the final ball off Okpe's off-spin, with Juma Miyaji run out trying to complete a second run, leaving the Cricket Cranes a run short.

It was the first time Nigeria had beaten their rivals in men's T20Is, and skipper Chima Akachukwu praised the hard work of everybody in the Nigerian cricket community.

“We are delighted to have won this tournament especially beating Uganda for the first time in a T20I game. It goes to show how far we have come; the boys have been working hard and the coach (Stephen Maziva Mangongo) pushing us to our limits," Akachukwu said.

“We thank everyone that believed in us and supported us, from the President, the Board, the staff, we are deeply grateful. To the other countries that participated, you can be proud of your performance as everyone tasted victory.”

Nigeria and Uganda join Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda and Kenya, who had already qualified through the continent’s first two Sub-Regional Qualifiers, completing the six-team line-up for Africa’s Regional Final on the road to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028. The top two teams of that qualifier go on to a global qualifier.

Fellow African side Namibia already have a spot at the global qualifier thanks to their participation at the 2026 T20 World Cup, while Zimbabwe have already qualified for the T20 World Cup in 2028 thanks to their Super 8 finish in the same tournament earlier this year.
