Victor Wembanyama was going to dunk the ball and force overtime against Houston. Amen Thompson had other ideas.

The Rockets knocked the Spurs down to 0-2 to start this season, this one in a home game for San Antonio played in Austin (the same weekend an F1 race fills the city).
It’s been that kind of a start to the season for the Spurs — Wembanyama banked in a 3-pointer five seconds before that was waived off because coach Mitch Johnson called a timeout (to set up that last play). San Antonio is now 0-2 to open the season, having lost to Oklahoma City and Houston, two teams at the top of the West that will be roadblocks in the Spurs’ plans to return to the NBA Finals.
Alperen Sengun was key to the Rockets’ win, scoring 14 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Durant scored 20 points and added seven rebounds and six assists in what felt like a homecoming game for the former University of Texas star. Thompson had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Wembanyama led the Spurs with 25 points on 9-of-21 shooting, plus 13 rebounds. Dylan Harper scored 20 points, including a poster dunk that put the Spurs down by just two with 46 seconds left. San Antonio just couldn’t pull off the win.
