A number of off-contract NRL players have reported interest from clubs in Super League, but the overseas quota cap is causing problems for those interested parties.
Just under 30 Australian first-grade players remain without a club for 2027, and with time running out to secure a new deal down under, players, agents and clubs will undoubtedly be looking at options in the Northern Hemisphere.
Yesterday, Serious About Rugby League published an article naming every NRL player without a contract for 2028, but there are still plenty of players who don’t have their futures resolved for next season, and that could mean a move to Super League.
Australian news outlet Code Sports have reported that Kevin Walters could be set for a reunion with a former Brisbane Broncos player. Jack Gosiewski is one of three Broncos without a deal for the new season, but after injury hampered the end to his season, it has halted negotiations.
Brisbane has stated that they would like to keep the back-rower on a lower-end deal, but they also say that St Helens “could be keen” on a move. From the Broncos to the Cowboys, and with the same masthead confirming that Leigh Leopards have completed a deal to sign Kai O’Donnell, a fellow North Queenslander could be joining him in 2027.
Winger Jaxson Paulo is on the radar of “several English clubs.” The 27-year-old has 66 NRL appearances to his name and 29 tries, as well as seven try assists. In 2026, he has scored 13 tries in 16 games for the Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup.
Ex-NRL Grand Final winner Sam Verrills was reportedly on the radar of clubs including Catalans, however he is set to earn an NRL lifeline with the Sydney Roosters.
Former Warrington Wolves man Matt Dufty is another without a contract for next season. South Sydney Rabbitohs are trying to free up cap space to fit the full-back into their side, but have so far been unable to do so.
