Last week, reports emerged that Xabi Alonso and Chelsea had sent scouts to watch one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers over the weekend. He took his chance, netting a superb hat-trick.

On Saturday evening, Xabi Alonso decided to start with Morgan Rogers up front. The tactical gamble flopped as Chelsea lost to Tottenham, but it also showed Alonso doesn’t trust his backup options.

Danny Welbeck was a late substitute with Joao Pedro missing, while Emmanuel Emegha remains out injured. Chelsea’s striker situation is even more painful given Nicolas Jackson’s superb form at Villa.

Chelsea send scouts to watch Nicolas Tresoldi score hat-trick

According to a report from TeamTalk last week, Chelsea sent scouts to watch Club Brugge striker Nicolas Tresoldi. The 27-time U21 Germany striker has been on fire for Brugge since he joined them in 2025.

The game in question was Brugge’s home game against Sint-Truiden. It finished 3-2, with Brugge winning thanks to their star man. Tresoldi netted a quality hat-trick, taking his tally to 12 goals in 14 appearances.

If Chelsea scouts were in attendance, as the report suggests, then they will have reported back with a glowing verdict. It’s not even Tresoldi’s first hat-trick, netting three against Inter in the Champions League.

Who else is interested in signing £42m-rated Nicolas Tresoldi?

Tresoldi’s form has not gone unnoticed. Since his move to Brugge, he has scored 35 goals in 72 games, having found the back of the net 23 times in his first season after a move from German side Hannover.

LiveScore claim Brugge are requesting a €50m (£42m) fee, having set a €35m (£29m) asking price back in the summer. Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also linked.

But if Alonso does not trust Welbeck to start and Emegha remains injured, it is quite clear that Chelsea need another striker. One that bridges the gap in quality between Pedro and the rest of Alonso’s options.

Tresoldi is showing the kind of form that does that. Yes, there will be question marks over his ability to step up in the Premier League. But Tresoldi has more than proven himself in the Champions League, too.
