Libs melt down after Sophie Cunningham gets checkered flag-waving honors at F1's United States Grand Prix

The WNBA star joined Cadillac F1 at their home race as Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli dominated from lights to flag

Sophie Cunningham has a way of making lefties start sputtering with rage, and that happened on Sunday when she was given the honor of waving the checkered flag at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.

The race itself wasn't the most exciting USGP we've ever seen, with Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli leading pretty much from lights to flag.

As with most F1 races, especially on US soil, there was an influx of celebrities, including Cunningham, who was hanging out with the Cadillac F1 team at their home race.

There's nothing unusual about a celebrity hanging around the paddock. Teams invite all kinds of guests to these races.

However, not all of them get the honor of waving the checkered flag, and this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, that honor went to Cunningham.

Isn't it odd how once again another sport has recognized the star power of a WNBA player before the WNBA did?

A lot of folks were digging the USGP organizer's call to have Cunningham wave the flag as championship leader Antonelli crossed the stripe.

Of course, it did not sit well with some that Cunningham — who dared to say she believes women's sports should be reserved for women of the biological variety — was given an opportunity like this.

Cunningham owns so much left-wing brain real estate that she sets them off by not saying a word and doing something cool she was invited to do.

F1 moves on to Mexico City this weekend and then Brazil the next weekend.

The series will then return to the United States for the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Nov. 21, before rounding out the season with stops in Qatar and Abu Dhabi (assuming they go on as planned; January's Dakar Rally just got moved out of Saudi Arabia, so who knows?).

Maybe the folks in Vegas are up for doing the funniest thing ever and have Sophie Cunningham flex those flag-wavin' muscles again.

Hey, she has some experience now.
