Speaking to MUTV, Cunha showed his appreciation to Lacey, and hailed the youngster’s game-changing impact.
He explained that he recognised how the United crowd was behind Lacey, and wants to help the youngster fulfil his potential.
Cunha said: “Unbelievable, Shea is a young guy. He comes from the academy, and then we saw like the stadium come with him, I feel like they are part of the family, they follow him from the from the beginning, and yeah, we want to help him to to push him to be this player that everyone wants.
“And yeah, him in the Champions League give the first assist. I feel like to be part of this is something incredible.”
Matheus Cunha scored Manchester United’s second and third goal in the 3-2 comeback, with Bruno Fernandes starting the comeback with a penalty.
Cunha celebrated wildly with the crowd when he scored his second goal, and he was booked. He picked up another booking minutes later for a late challenge.
Despite this, he described the win over Roma as a ‘dream’, and was glad to give something back to the United supporters.
He said: “A dream. To be part of this kind of comeback is crazy, it’s a dream. Of course, you don’t dream with the red card. But in the end, I think it’s much more than me. I feel like the stadium is very happy. I always dreamed to to have the celebration.”
While Cunha had played in the Champions League previously with RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid, he had never scored in the competition.
Now with a goal against Sabah, and two against Roma, he has three Champions League strikes to his name, and there could be more to come. However, he will serve a suspension in the next game away at Sporting.
