Nicolas Raskin and Dan Neil struggled to assert control in the middle of the park, as Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw by Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday, 28 October.

The midweek trip to Edinburgh proved to be a tough watch for Rangers fans tuning in, as Derek McInnes‘ men found themselves under the cosh against an injury-hit Hearts side that were demolished 7-1 by Celtic just days ago.

Emmanuel Fernandez was the ultimate villain, making mistake after mistake during his 90 minutes on the pitch, but there were other culprits too. Djeidi Gassama and Minsu Kim looked to lack ideas while out of possession, while Dujon Sterling has had fingers pointed at him after missing a sitter in the final seconds of the clash.

Questions have also been asked of Raskin and Neil, with the Belgian getting booked just three minutes into the game, although it was not entirely his fault. Anyone who watched the game would admit that midfield is where Rangers ultimately struggled against Hearts, as they failed to assert any sort of control as Wouter Vrancken’s men bypassed the midfield two several times.

Rangers loanee Lyall Cameron bags assist Celtic 2-2 Dundee United

Meanwhile, back in Glasgow, Lyall Cameron showed his Rangers seniors how to pull the strings from midfield in a tough away game. The Ibrox outcast was once again the star man for Dundee United, as they played out a 2-2 draw against Celtic – a result that the Light Blues failed to take advantage of.

Rated 7.9 on FotMob, Cameron was the highest-rated player for Jim Goodwin’s side. Between both teams, only Liam Scales received a higher score (8.0).

Cameron’s highlight moment against Celtic came in the 28th minute, when he assisted Zachary Sapsford for his goal. Trailing 1-0, the Rangers loanee found his Dundee United teammate in the box with a pinpoint cross, which was then headed into the back of the net.

A quick glance at the 24-year-old’s heat map showcases his relentless box-to-box industry, as he anchored Dundee United’s transitions while carving open the Celtic backline.

  • Cameron registered three key chances created. Only Celtic’s Callum McGregor (5) had more.
  • The Rangers loanee also completed 100% of his dribbles (2/2).
  • He also chipped in defensively, registering three clearances and four ball recoveries.

The timing of Cameron’s stellar audition could not be more poignant for Raskin, as well as Neil. At Tynecastle, the Rangers midfield was easily bypassed during periods of high pressure, lacking the progressive passing and crossing delivery that Cameron executed so effortlessly at Celtic Park.
