8 Man Utd players would face frosty reunion as Roy Keane tipped to replace Michael Carrick

Manchester United may have some awkward meetings in their dressing room at the moment but they would soon multiply if Roy Keane arrived at Old Trafford

Roy Keane has been touted as a possible replacement for Michael Carrick at Old Trafford and if that were to come to fruition, there may be a few of Manchester United's stars looking over their shoulders. Ex-United captain Keane has a longstanding reputation for taking no prisoners and carrying no passengers and would certainly ruffle a few feathers at Carrington.

While the 55-year-old has not been employed by the Red Devils for more than 20 years, following a controversial MUTV interview calling out his teammates, Keane has never been short of a word to say about United during his punditry career. With the club without a Premier League title since 2013, he's had ample opportunity to lay down the law.

"I have the utmost respect for Roy. If he speaks out, it's because he wants excellence," ex-teammate Quinton Fortune told BOYLE Sports.

"Roy Keane coaching at Man Utd would be a lot of fun. I was fortunate to play alongside Roy, and he was an unbelievable leader. He pushed every team to success and raised everyone's standards.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working with him in training and matches because he demanded excellence and made you a better player."

Carrick is safe at least until taking on Bournemouth in the Premier League and already has a few awkward meetings of his following the outbursts of Lisandro Martinez and captain Bruno Fernandes. If Keane was to come in he might arrive to a few more disgruntled players following his previous criticisms.

Mirror Football takes a look at who may not be too enthusiastic about the Irishman's presence.

Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese midfielder doesn't appear happy about Carrick's presence given his recent comments but he'd likely butt heads with Keane immediately. The former Ipswich Town and Sunderland boss has criticised Fernandes' leadership and podcast appearances.

Fernandes has been called an 'imposter' with 'disgraceful' body language and even a 'baby' for how he has reacted to his teammates in the past. Keane has also suggested that Fernandes' reputation has only grown due to the low standards around the team.

Harry Maguire

Like Fernandes, Keane has criticised Harry Maguire's appearance on podcasts and lack of leadership. The ex-Celtic midfielder has previously conceded he crossed a line when critiquing Maguire but has also torn into the defender for his post-match comments.

Marcus Rashford

Keane has previously told Marcus Rashford that he should be embarrassed that he was exiled from the club and also suggested the forward smiles too much.

The veteran pundit has praised the academy product's abilities in the past, but he has delivered consistent criticism over his hunger and focus. On one occasion, Keane suggested Rashford played like a child.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw is a rare figure ot have accepted some of Keane's criticism, but the Irishman has previously suggested that he is 'stealing a living' at Old Trafford. Keane has issued plenty of stinging statements on the former Southampton youngster.

Lisandro Martínez

Keane suggested that Lisandro Martinez should shut his mouth and look in the mirror after his critique of the club's hierarchy. The incident also saw Keane describe United as a 'circus'.

Diogo Dalot

The Portuguese full-back has often failed to convince Keane of his quality. While Erik ten Hag was still in charge of the club, Keane said: "Dalot missed a chance last week and people keep telling me he’s a good player. Put the ball in the back of the net, keep your manager in the job for another couple of weeks at least.”

Dalot's poor work rate has also been singled out by Keane, who believes he does not offer enough and can cheat on his defensive duties.

Kobbie Mainoo

Keane has called Kobbie Mainoo's brother an 'idiot' and said he still expects Mainoo to do much more despite his talents. The former midfielder accused the United ace of 'strolling around the pitch' during a game against Chelsea. Keane has compared the England international to former teammate Nicky Butt.

Mason Mount

Mason Mount was told he looked like a 'schoolboy' following a match against West Ham last season, though during Mount's time at Chelsea he suggested anyone questioning his ability was an idiot. Keane has also suggested he lacks 'presence'.
