Manchester United supporters think a youngster deserves a spot in the senior side after his performance in the Under-18s’ 6-3 win over Liverpool at Carrington.
At a wet and windy Carrington, it was raining goals on Saturday as the North West rivals played out a nine-goal thriller, with sporting director Jason Wilcox and men’s team head coach Michael Carrick watching on.
United’s side, which featured Wayne Rooney’s oldest son Kai, were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to Jaume Camacho’s brace and Noah Ajayi’s finish, before Liverpool improved in the second half, with Finn Inglethorpe and Erik Farkas pulling two goals back.
But it was the home side who finished stronger, with Camacho completing his hat-trick before Emmanuel Ziro made it 5-2. Liverpool made it 5-3 through Luca Eden before Camacho added United’s sixth, and his fourth, in stoppage time.
Despite Kai Rooney constantly being under the spotlight and producing a promising display with an assist, it was Camacho who had fans urging Carrick to pick him for the first team moving forward.
The Spain-born central midfielder can play in midfield or at full-back when required and has already registered seven goal contributions in five Under-18 Premier League fixtures this season.
Fans were quick to give their views on the 17-year-old’s positive showing.
One said: “Jaume Camacho. I know what I’m seeing. This is a world-class goalscoring midfield profile. He’ll need some luck and a manager who trusts the youth, but he’s got the ability, in my opinion.”
Another added: “Time to start taking Jaume Camacho seriously as a talent. Technically gifted, press-resistant, versatile enough to play in midfield or invert from right-back, and capable of progressing play through the lines. There’s a lot to like here.”
A third claimed: “Jaume Camacho is literally any manager’s dream.”
A fourth commented: “Jaume Camacho is a really intriguing prospect. He has a unique size and stiffness to his game as a number 10, which makes him look a lot less effective than he actually is. A bit like Bellingham in that sense — not a comparison to his overall game.”
Camacho is already signed with Roc Nation Sports, which also represents the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Endrick and Marcus Rashford, among other big names.
Speaking to Spanish outlet MARCA earlier this year, the youngster’s agent, Nathan Campbell, voiced his high hopes for the Spaniard.
“I’ve never seen him play a bad game,” he said. “He never scores below a six. He’s a leader on the field and a hard worker.
“He has great technical ability and is an intelligent footballer, which allows him to play with complete ease in different positions on the pitch.”
Campbell went on to suggest Roc Nation want Camacho promoted to the first team as quickly as possible.
“When we start to see his full physical potential, combined with his extraordinary footballing intelligence, he will become an elite player,” he added.
“Our ambition is for him to make the leap to the first team as soon as possible and secure a place in one of the top five European leagues. The ultimate goal is for him to win major titles with both his club and his national team.”
