It’s the day after Halloween and the Carolina Hurricanes are facing the Winnipeg Jets in a matinee game in Lenovo Center…let’s hope the candy hangovers, and end of daylight savings time hangovers don’t last too long.
The game is scheduled for 1:00 PM EST.
In the Hurricanes’ last game, they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets with a 3-2 score on a history-making night, themed with spooky charm just as you’d expect in the annual Halloween game. …There were even some fans dressed as broadcasters Hanna Yates and Shane Willis, as well as…ahem…Doctor Professor Seth Jarvis. Anyway, Pyotr Kochetkov won his ninth straight start to open the season – claiming the franchise record for longest season-opening winning streak, while the Hurricanes themselves tied the NHL record for most wins in the month of October, with 11. You can read all about the game here!
As for the Winnipeg Jets, they’ve been on one heck of a skid, having not won a single game since October 13th – two games before they last faced the Hurricanes.
In recent games, the Hurricanes have seemed to step away from the usual alternating tandem, and have instead leaned more heavily on the hot hand of Pyotr Kochetkov. With an extra day off between games, if they stick with how they’ve been doing it, then Kochetkov will once again start. Nonetheless, they very well may go with Brandon Bussi to get him in some action – with a game against a struggling team in the Western Conference, it’d be a great time to get him back into the swing of things.
This season, Kochetkov’s goals against average is 1.66, with a save percentage of .919.
As for the Jets, they have started Stuart Skinner for most of the season. The last time they played the Hurricanes, they had Clay Stevenson in the net. Since the trade of Connor Hellebuyck and procurement of Nico Daws, he has taken the backup goalie role. With all of that being said, Skinner will likely be their guy against the Hurricanes
This season, Skinner’s goals against average is 2.97, with a save percentage of .899.
