Chelsea host bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in an intriguing London derby on Saturday.

Xabi Alonso’s Blues have won two games on the spin since the international break and seem to have finally figured out their defensive issues. Chelsea sit fourth in the table with 13 points from their opening seven games and are the third-highest scorers in the league with Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers running riot up top.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs are finally up and running for the season, as they won 3-1 at home against Coventry City on Monday to secure their first league win of the campaign. New-look Spurs have played better than their points tally suggests and they will fancy their chances of causing an upset at Chelsea.

Chelsea team news

The Blues will be without captain Reece James and winger Jamie Gittens, while Emiliano Martinez is out after having surgery on a fractured jaw. That means young Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders will start, and this is a big moment in his career. Jordan Henderson will likely continue in midfield as his experience is adding valuable balance to this Chelsea side. And as long as they’re solid enough, Joao Pedro, Palmer, Rogers and Pedro Neto will create and finish off plenty of chances.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Spurs have picked up so many injuries, but Tosin, Andy Robertson and Omar Marmoush should be fit. Savio, Bergvall, Udogie, Simons, Odobert and Mudryk are out injured, while Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended. All of that means De Zerbi is a bit limited with his options but Dominic Solanke is leading the line really well and having James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski back to fitness is a huge boost and provides much-needed creativity.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction

This has all the makings of a classic and there will be plenty of big challenges flying in and risks taken. That chaos will probably suit Chelsea, just. Chelsea 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur.
