The Los Angeles Chargers have reached their bye week without a win, but that apparently hasn’t convinced everyone in the building to start tearing up the roster just yet. For fans watching an 0-6 season unfold, the lack of urgency is getting harder to stomach.
In an Oct. 24 “temperature check” covering several teams, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Los Angeles was still giving the impression it was “standing pat.” However, the insider left the door open for a change of plans before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, noting that the “Chargers are receiving calls.”
The latest update comes after an earlier report that the Chargers had rejected trade calls because they believed they could turn things around after a 0-5 start. Another loss has made that stance tougher to defend.
One fan seemed to think the team was already fielding calls after Week 6. “Chargers definitely taking calls right now,”they wrote.
A second fan was even more blunt. “Chargers are so poorly run. Embarrassing,”they wrote.
The numbers aren’t doing the Chargers any favors, either. Heading into their Week 7 bye, they rank last with a PFN Offense Impact Score of 61.8. They’re averaging just 15 points per game and 4.6 yards per play.
Some fans have had enough and want the team to make much bigger changes, starting at the top.
“Chargers ownership should fire everyone if they’re happy sitting around with that dumpster fire. If anything, I’d be all in on a tank. Bucs probably should be thinking the same,”one fan wrote.
Heading into Week 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 1-5 and are set to face the division-leading Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
One X user focused on the steep climb required to salvage Los Angeles’ season. “Chargers have to go 10-1 to have a realistic shot at a wildcard,”they argued.
A 10-1 finish would leave Los Angeles at 10-7. That’s a tall order for a team that has yet to win a game this season.
A Raiders fan, meanwhile, had no problem with the Chargers sticking with their current roster. “Why would the Chargers stand pat at 0-6? I’m all for it as a Raiders fan, though,”the fan wrote.
Another fan was just as happy to see the team stay the course. “Chargers ain’t trading anyone. LFG,”they wrote.
Los Angeles still has games against the Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans before the trade deadline, giving the front office two more chances to see where things stand.
If the Chargers lose both games, it’ll be even harder to explain why the team isn’t making changes at 0-8.
