LIV Golf’s bankruptcy filing is out, and it reveals some details about the rebel tour.
The league, the players’, and even the CEO’s earnings over the last few seasons have been revealed, and they tell a lot about how the tour did business. For example, CEO Scott O’Neil received over $6 million in retention payments this summer while vendors went unpaid.
These filings also revealed that a recent Ryder Cup star and major championship contender not only considered joining LIV Golf back in 2022, but also signed an agreement with the tour.
Cameron Young was one of the breakout stars of this PGA Tour season. He won The Players and The Cadillac Championship after being one of Team USA’s best performers at the Ryder Cup, then continued his impressive run of form at the Presidents Cup.
After winning his first PGA Tour event last year, Young has become one of the game’s best players, but things could have been very different. Recently filed court documents show that in July 2022, Young signed an agreement with LIV Golf to join the league.
Young has admitted to considering joining the tour in the past. But we didn’t know that Young came this close to joining before U-turning and staying on the PGA Tour. He would have been a major acquisition for the tour, and his career likely would have worked out very differently.

Young players who have signed with LIV have seen their careers stall out on the breakaway league. Tom McKibbin, Michael La Sasso, and even Joaquin Niemann have been non-factors at major championships.
Meanwhile, Young has become an outright superstar, contending at both The Masters and The Open Championship in 2026, winning some of the biggest events on the PGA Tour, and starring at the Ryder Cup.
Young’s late U-turn four years ago could have been the most significant decision of his career, and one that put him on the trajectory to becoming one of the very best players in the game.
