Having got their first win of the season against Coventry City on Monday, Tottenham Hotspur will be keen to build on that result as they prepare for high-stakes London derby against Chelsea.
James Maddison made his first start in nearly 18 months and scored a fantastic goal in the 3-1 win over Coventry City. Spurs were boosted by the return of Dejan Kulusevski against the Sky Blues, and have received another positive news on the injury front following the return of Pedro Porro to training.
Tottenham have a disastrous record at Stamford Bridge, winning just once in the Premier League. Under Mauricio Pochettino in 2018, Spurs defeated Chelsea 3-1 and ended a 28-year wait for a league win at the ground. So, Roberto De Zerbi’s side face an uphill task to get a win at the home of Chelsea after eight long years.
Chelsea have done well under new boss Xabi Alonso, winning four, losing two and drawing once in their seven Premier League games. The Pensioners have won their last two games, registering wins over Bournemouth and Everton, respectively. Given their overall record in this fixture and form, the West Londoners remain overwhelming favourites on paper.
Now, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has delivered his prediction on the game. The Sky Sports pundit thinks Chelsea will continue their dominance over Spurs in this iconic fixture, predicting a 2-0 win for the hosts.
“I see Chelsea winning against Spurs at home on Saturday,” Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports.
De Zerbi is still searching for some sort of momentum after a summer of major upheaval in North London. The win over Coventry massively helps the Lilywhites heading into the high-voltage clash against Chelsea.
There were several positives to take for De Zerbi from his side’s first victory of the season, while improvements in certain areas are an absolute must. Defensively, Tottenham have to be more compact and disciplined, especially when containing a fiery attacking trio of Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.
The players have to make smart decisions on and off the ball in midfield to stop Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson from running the show. Also, the forwards have to be clinical in front of goal if we intend to win the bragging rights. To cut a long story short, Tottenham have to be at their best in every department to break the Stamford Bridge hoodoo.
