Bob Chesney and the UCLA Bruins have landed their QB recruit of the future, with 2028 quarterback Josiah Boyd committing to UCLA on Saturday ahead of the Bruins game versus Michigan State.
The signing didn’t come out of nowhere. Boyd has attended multiple UCLA games this season and on Friday, the night before his announcement, Boyd wore a UCLA towel around his waist for his high school game. The UCLA towel must have done the trick, as Boyd picked up a 51-27 win on Friday night.
Boyd has star potential and is a major get for the new-look UCLA program. 247 Sports Composite has Boyd as the No. 6 quarterback in the class and as the No. 3 recruit in all of California. The 4-star recruit won’t have to move far either, as he’s from Moreno Valley, CA and playing his high school ball at Vista del Lago. Rivals ranks Boyd even higher, marking him as the No. 2 quarterback in the 2028 class.
Boyd announced his decision on Instagram Live but he made sure to keep everyone guessing. The three finalists were UCLA, Oregon and Kentucky. Boyd wore all three hats, and threw all three hats off his head before ultimately showing his decision with a rose, indicating that the Rose Bowl will be his future home before throwing on a second UCLA hat.
Boyd is a legitimate option at quarterback in the future for UCLA, with Boyd standing at 6’3” and has shown plenty of abilities with his legs. The quarterback position is a bit of a question mark for UCLA, with Nico Iamaleava’s future being uncertain and Ty Dieffenbach having not played many college games, Boyd has the potential to be a long-term answer for the Bruins.
