Parrish and McCollum deserve all-pro recognition

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have one of the NFL's most underrated cornerback duos, but the conversation needs to go beyond recognition. Over eight games, Jacob Parrish and Zyon McCollum have built legitimate cases for All-Pro consideration, and their impact on Tampa Bay's defensive turnaround deserves far more attention.

Parrish, who has quickly established himself as one of the NFL's most disruptive defensive backs, has been on a tear. Through eight games, he has recorded 13 passes defensed and two interceptions. His 13 pass breakups lead the league. Parrish's versatility makes him particularly valuable. Whether in the slot or outside, he has shown the instincts, awareness, and physicality to challenge opposing receivers. His ability to recognize routes, close passing windows, and make plays on the football has become a significant part of Tampa Bay's defensive identity.

McCollum deserves the same recognition, even if his contributions don't always show up as frequently in the box score. The veteran cornerback has recorded nine passes defensed and two interceptions through eight games. His size, length, and athleticism let him compete against some of the league's toughest receiving assignments, and he has consistently made life uncomfortable for opposing quarterbacks. The two have already delivered impressive performances against elite competition. Ja'Marr Chase was limited to two catches for 12 yards, while CeeDee Lamb managed just two receptions for nine yards. Carolina's Tetairoa McMillan also managed four catches for 40 yards. Those aren't insignificant accomplishments, especially given the caliber of receivers involved.

Their impact was evident again Sunday against Atlanta. Tampa Bay recorded a 16-0 shutout, with both cornerbacks contributing interceptions. Parrish added two passes defensed, while McCollum also broke up another pass. The bigger picture is what makes their individual accomplishments even more meaningful. Tampa Bay's pass defense has improved considerably from last season, and the secondary has become a legitimate strength rather than an area opponents can consistently exploit. All-Pro recognition should reward more than reputation or name recognition. It should recognize players who consistently affect games, limit opposing offenses, and make difficult assignments look manageable. Parrish and McCollum are doing exactly that. One has emerged as a ball-hawking young playmaker, while the other continues to establish himself as a dependable outside presence. They bring different strengths to the same secondary, and together, they give Tampa Bay what every contender needs: two cornerbacks capable of changing the outcome of a passing game.
