TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella believes the promotion’s creative approach gives its talent an advantage over performers in WWE and AEW.
Marella recently discussed what separates TNA from other major wrestling companies. He pointed to the freedom its wrestlers receive when developing their characters and delivering promos.
Speaking during an interview with We R Wrestling, Marella explained that TNA operates with a smaller creative team. Moreover, the promotion gives performers more room to express themselves in the ring.
The former WWE star also compared TNA’s approach to how wrestlers worked during professional wrestling’s earlier eras, when performers often developed their own promos without extensive scripting.
Marella explained that TNA does not have the same extensive writing and production structure as WWE. This setup allows its performers to exercise greater creative freedom.
“We don’t have 15 writers, we don’t have 15 producers. We have more freedom,” Marella said.
He also referenced the golden era of professional wrestling, when performers such as Roddy Piper developed their own promos rather than receiving scripted dialogue.
Marella acknowledged that modern television wrestling requires quality control, particularly to protect relationships with sponsors and television networks. However, he believes TNA still allows its talent to retain more individual creative control.
“I think that’s one of the strengths in TNA is that we do have some more creative freedom at the individual level,” Marella added.
