Ibrahima Konate risks Liverpool fan anger again with recent comments

Liverpool fans may be left frustrated once again by comments from Ibrahima Konate, as the former Reds defender continues to settle into life at Real Madrid after his summer move

Ibrahima Konate once again risks angering the Liverpool fanbase after he reasserted that Real Madrid is the "best club in the world" at a recent press conference.

It follows a controversial move for the centre-back, as he left Anfield in the summer at the end of his contract to move to the Bernabeu as a free agent. That was despite the defender himself stating months prior that a renewal of his deal appeared close, which ultimately did not end up happening.

It followed the path walked by Trent Alexander-Arnold the year prior, something that resulted in the academy graduate losing some of the fanbase's support in the process.

While the right-back has since struggled to keep his place in the team, there has been more success for Konate in the early weeks of his time in the Spanish capital. The France international has made himself something of a regular under Jose Mourinho, as he looks to cement a place in a team that is expected to win trophies every season.

The transfer itself from Liverpool to Real Madrid won't have made Konate the most popular man on Merseyside, while his early comments at his new club may have only reinforced that view.

It was the centre-back who was asked to speak to the media ahead of Los Blancos' clash with RB Leipzig on Wednesday, and it was there that made a suggestion that may not go down too well with the Liverpool fans.

On his start to life so far, he said: "Real Madrid is the best club in the world. It’s more than I expected. Everything is amplified to a much greater degree, people all over the world are talking about us."

It's a claim that may leave Liverpool fans frustrated, considering the time and patience that was taken with the star to get him to the very top at a club that means so much to the supporters.

However, perhaps the presence of Jeremy Jacquet would soften the blow of such quotes from Konate. The fellow Frenchman has settled in well at Anfield, stepping up with some key performances in important matches so far.

The 21-year-old has been solid in his displays, offering a comforting presence alongside Virgil van Dijk that was missing for much of the previous campaign.

Only time will tell if Jacquet can reach the heights of the current and previous centre-backs in the Liverpool squad, but he is certainly making a case for being among the best if he continues on his current trajectory.

For now, however, Liverpool fans will be reflecting on the loss of Konate with a little less anger and frustration, while he looks to move on and impress for Real Madrid.
