Both sides came into this one fresh off the back of a weekend win and were unbeaten in this competition.
West ham had already beaten London City earlier on in the season, however their opposition still came into the game as favourites.
As many anticipated, it was the Lionesses who started on the front foot, always looking to play forward with huge quality in players such as Alexia Putellas and Nikita Parris.

The deadlock was broken in the 29th minute, however it didn’t come without its controversy. Nicole Anyomi found the back of the net after being 1 on 1 with the keeper, however it appeared she had tripped Eva Nyström in the buildup.
Despite this, little less than 10 minutes later, the home side found the equaliser against the run of play.
A good ball in from Yu Endo was met with a thunderous volley from Viviane Asseyi which found the top corner, an outrageous finish.
The Irons would’ve been delighted to go into the break level, but just before the break they were left feeling deflated.
Isobel Goodwin scored a peach of a goal in added time, demonstrating all round great forwards play, to give her side a deserved lead.
Despite being behind, Rita Guarino’s side were still in the game and fortunate to only be down by a goal, as it could’ve been a couple more.
The second half brought very little to talk about.
London City were happy with their lead, and their experience and quality was shining through in keeping the lead with very little worry.
It wasn’t until there was 10 minutes left of the game, where West Ham finally showed more intent and were playing attacking football.

It proved to be too little too late, but the signs were there and if the fight back had started even slightly sooner, we could’ve been looking at a different result.
The game did finish 2-1, meaning the Lionesses sit 3rd in the Players Cup table, with West Ham 4 points lower in 7th.
WSL action returns at the weekend, with the Hammers facing a trip down south to Brighton, who sit below them in 12th.
It’s a great opportunity for the ladies to get another 3 points and begin the climb to the top half of the table.
