Victor Wembanyama is the alien, and on Wednesday night he achieved something that hasn’t been accomplished since shortly after Area 51 was opened.

Wemby went off to a level we haven’t see in decades against the Mavericks, finishingwith 52 points, 24 rebounds, and 8 blocks — the first player to hit these marks since Wilt Chamberlain in 1961.

It goes without saying: But everything about this highlight reel shows how unfair the game is. Obviously we’ve known about his length, wingspan, and athleticism since he was touted upon entering the NBA — but the edge he’s added to his game that pushes it into the stratosphere is the amount of poise he’s showing on the defensive end when it comes to blocking shots.

We can see in this video that Wemby has developed this technique of hanging on an opponent’s hip and waiting for them to rise for their shot well before he ever jumps. This ensures the shooter’s attempt isn’t altered, as it might be if they jumped at the same time, and Wembanyama knows he can easily match them at the point of release because of his length. It’s what led to a majority of his blocks on Wednesday, and it’s frankly just unfair.

It’s Wemby’s world, and we’re living in it.
