Manchester United are exploring a potential surprise swoop for Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January, according to a report from The Athletic.
With the Red Devils confirming this week that Benjamin Sesko will not feature again until 2027 following an extended shin injury, United are desperately searching for attacking reinforcements when the transfer window reopens.
Since completing a free switch to Leeds last summer, Calvert-Lewin has been a smash hit and Elland Road and the former Everton star was included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad during September’s international break.
Finding the net against Man United during Leeds’ 1-1 draw in Yorkshire on October 18th, the 29-year-old has notched four Premier League strikes so far this season and has a leading role to play in Daniel Farke’s potential European charge.
However, while the Old Trafford hierarchy might have discussed internally the potential over a blockbuster January swoop for Calvert-Lewin, The Athletic are reporting that any deal is deemed as remote given the fierce historic rivalry between both camps.
Shockingly announcing this week that Michael Carrick will remain in charge ahead of Saturday’s mouth-watering trip to Chelsea, Manchester United find themselves at the heart of a public nightmare.
Remarkably mustering just a sole Premier League win so far this season and with both skipper Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez launching astonishing attacks this month, United currently hold just a one-point buffer over slipping into the relegation zone.
