After a convincing win against Wigan Athletic, Leicester City soon crashed back down to reality with an uninspiring 2-2 draw at home to Stevenage.
Sammy Braybrooke’s opener two minutes in looked like it would set the tone but the visitors equalised twice after Kamari Doyle restored the lead in the second half.
Defensively it was a shambles all over again for the Foxes, and Russell Martin seems to be ignoring his own advice when it comes to Caleb Okoli.

Garbage yet again. How Okoli actually gets game time is beyond me. What happened to ‘don’t do your job and you won’t play’

After the home defeat to Peterborough United, in which the Italian played his part in a disastrous opening 30 minutes that saw the Foxes go into the break 3-0 down, Martin warned his squad that “if you don’t do your job, you don’t play”.
Since then, Okoli has been front and centre for two of Leicester’s biggest mistakes. He was hooked after 45 minutes against Luton Town when he carelessly took too long on the ball, allowing Nakhi Wells to score. Then, against Stevenage, he and his defensive partners combined to put on a Halloween horror show and allow the visitors to equalise.
Martin’s warning seems pretty null and void when since then, Okoli has quite clearly not done his job on the pitch. Some may point to Harry Souttar and Warren O’Hora and say they deserve the same level of scrutiny. They do. However, Okoli was signed to play in the Premier League and still looks out of his depth two divisions below.
Once upon a time the Italian was being called up to his senior national team squad. Now he’s miles away from that. While all of this happens, Ilari Kangasniemi is ready and waiting to go. We saw from his cameo that he is up for the fight. So why not give him a chance?
For too long now, the high-value and experienced players have let Leicester down. You can see from Braybrooke, Louis Page and Will Alves’ performances that the youngsters are capable of stepping up while others falter. If Martin doesn’t drop Okoli for the FA Cup game against Oxford City, and going forward, then more will doubt his credentials.
