The Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators will battle it out in their rivalry game on Saturday in Atlanta. It was reported that Florida will give the starting quarterback role to Aaron Philo instead of Tramell Jones, per Pete Nakos and Zach Abolverdi.
Philo had been the starting quarterback since the beginning of the season, but he sustained a shoulder injury against South Carolina on Oct. 10. The Gators lost that game 38-19, with Philo going 21 of 28 for 227 yards and a touchdown, along with an interception. The very next week against the Texas Longhorns, Jones got the start in place of Philo and went 22 of35 for 155 yards and two passing touchdowns. Jones and company defeated the previously seventh-ranked Longhorns 27-24.
It would have made sense to start Jones against Georgia, given that he has the hot hand, but Philo seems to be healthy and ready to go. It is good that the Gators have a viable backup option if necessary. So far this season, Philo has thrown for 1,341 yards and nine touchdowns to three interceptions, while rushing for 104 yards and three touchdowns in six games.
Both Jones and Philo are listed as questionable against Georgia. Jones is more of a rusher than Philo. Georgia is entering the game 6-1 off a bye week, while Florida is 5-2 and had a bye week too.
