Freddie Slater's second Formula 1 practice appearance with Audi was cut short by a gearbox failure at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The 18-year-old from Stratford completed just seven laps in first practice at Interlagos before his car stopped on track, triggering a red flag.
Slater reported the problem over team radio, saying: "The car has just switched off... I've lost the gears."
He finished 22nd with a best time of 1:14.966, having made his F1 practice debut with Audi at the Mexico City Grand Prix last time out.
The gearbox issue also affected Audi's preparations later in the day, with regular driver Nico Hulkenberg unable to take part in second practice after the team ran out of time to fix it. The German was the only driver not to set a lap time in the session.
Despite the frustrating interruption, Slater was able to take positives from his latest opportunity, particularly the experience gained on the hard tyres.
"Of course, missing a session is frustrating as a driver because you just want to drive, that's what we love to do, but I know that's part of motorsport and these things can happen," he said.
"On the other hand, the laps I did were positive. On the hard tyre I got some good, valuable lessons, so I'll take that with me and move on.
"It's been an amazing experience over these two weekends and I am grateful to Audi Revolut F1 Team for it."
