Mikel Arteta's Arsenal fury clear during chat with two trusted lieutenants and Ezri Konsa's injury worry

Here is the Arsenal Debrief following the club's 2-1 Champions League triumph over Slavia Prague in Czechia on Wednesday evening

Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta wasn't happy with Arsenal's performance come full-time

Arsenal are now 19 games unbeaten in the Champions League, excluding penalty shootouts, following their hard-fought 2-1 win over Slavia Prague in Czechia.

First-half goals from Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres inflicted the damage, though the Gunners had to call upon David Raya's world-class reflexes to secure the victory.

Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions failed to put the game beyond all reasonable doubt and nearly paid the price for their complacency as Slavia launched an unsuccessful late ambush.

There were still plenty of positives for Arsenal and lots to unpack as the Gunners now prepare for their final Premier League fixture before the international break against Hull City.

Arteta confides in two trusted lieutenants

When pressed on exactly why Arsenal lost control, Mikel Arteta didn't want to elaborate in his post-match press conference. He said: "I have already mentioned a few things and some others I will keep to myself."

football.london also asked Arteta what he thought of David Raya's performance. In praising Raya, he also made another dig about his side's display, stating: "He had to show his quality again. Much more than what we expected. So this is great. But yeah, very concerned about what happened before which is something that obviously is not what we've shown in the past."

Arsenal just seemed to lose control in midfield after the break and it was something that evidently irked Arteta despite the final result. As it would. Immediately after the game, he confided in two of his trusted lieutenants on the pitch as he began to share his thoughts on the second-half pressure.

The passionate Spaniard was rather animated in conversation with Mikel Merino, who has already been likened to his coach because he's a leader and a student of the game. Merino was punching comments back to Arteta while Jurrien Timber was also involved in the dialogue, though he didn't appear to say much.

While Slavia only had 44 per cent possession, they had a total of 18 shots (six on target) to Arsenal's 12. In doing so, they also missed three big chances. Slavia's xG was 2.23, Arsenal's was 1.49. Those figures suggest the Gunners were somewhat fortunate to cling onto victory.

Gyokeres' big night It might not be a night that lives long in the memory for Arsenal but it could well prove to be the turning point in Viktor Gyokeres' season. In fact, he now has eight goal involvements (five goals, three assists) across his last 10 starts for the Gunners in all competitions.

Gyokeres seems to like the Champions League, too. He has been involved in 16 Champions League goals (12 goals, four assists) and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic (48 goals, 24 assists) has more out of all Swedish players.

But this was not merely about scoring. As Arteta alluded to in his press conference, there was a class to Gyokeres' link and hold-up play. A pattern is clearly forming given he teed up Declan Rice's equaliser at Bayern Munich with a lovely lay-off before also turning in a selfless performance in attack against Everton.

"He did that really well," Areta explained. "He understood really well when to appear, when to threat. Because they leave, we've got the four-man tomorrow. The midfield, there's a lot of spaces there. So when I said he was really connected to the team, well, the main thing is what you just mentioned. So really pleased because I think overall he had a great performance apart from the goal and assist."

The 28-year-old took his goal brilliantly, too. He played a quick give-and-go with Mikel Merino before shifting and curling in off the post. It was a sumptuous finish and a strike that is sure to give Gyokeres huge confidence moving forward.

Kai Havertz has not performed well consistently for some time. That could hand Gyokeres the initiative to usurp his close friend to a more prominent starting berth. He needs a run of games and seems unlikely to start against Hull given Havertz will be rested and the German netted the winner at Anfield.

Konsa scare

Inside the opening seven minutes, Ezri Konsa won a goal kick following an impressive intervention on the far touchline. In doing so, he appeared to feel something in his left knee.

Konsa was clearly in pain but that pain soon subsided and he continued normally. There never seemed to be any real alarm or indication that he would be coming off.

But as always with knocks, there is the possibility of swelling or bruising further down the line. It was a tad surprising to see him continue in the second half before eventually being subbed for Cristhian Mosquera on 62 minutes. William Saliba didn't play but was back on the bench.

football.london later asked Arteta for an update on Konsa, to which he said: "Obviously he's playing a lot. He's played so many games in the last few weeks and he had some issues and we decided to take him off."

It would not be a major surprise to see the 29-year-old rest against Hull City. He has played a lot of football lately, as Arteta said and he's also likely to be first-choice for England, particularly against Spain as the Nations League draws to a close.

Dropping Mosquera or Saliba in against The Tigers would not be a bad move from Arteta, though Konsa could prove to be absolutely fine.

Madueke in line for England recall There is growing expectation that Noni Madueke will be included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad on Friday for Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.

His club team-mate Bukayo Saka is currently sidelined with a quad injury and Madueke is said to be considered the natural replacement following his impressive recent form and involvement at this summer's World Cup.

The 24-year-old, who missed out on last month's England squad, did his hopes of ratifying his call-up no harm in Prague by netting the opener.

There has been a conviction to Madueke's play in recent weeks and he's played with a freeness of mind ever since starting at left-wing against Leeds - the first game back after the break.

Now he's beginning to look like a key player for the Gunners and it's clear he's taken confidence from the recent backing he's received from Mikel Arteta.

It was only a matter of weeks ago there was speculation that a number of top European clubs were sniffing around Madueke due to his lack of minutes. Now he looks a focal part of the club's plans moving forward and there's a clear willingness on his part to continue growing and improving.

Additionally, he seems to relish playing on the road. Nine of his 11 strikes for Arsenal - and 13 of his 17 Premier League goals - have now come on away territory.

Why Gabriel pulled Eze aside

Seconds after Viktor Gyokeres had struck Arsenal's second goal in Prague, Gabriel Magalhaes charged forward with only one thing in his mind.

It wasn't solely about congratulations Gyokeres but guiding Eberechi Eze. Gabriel had some stern words for the winger, who had blown hot and cold in spells.

Generally speaking, Eze had wreaked havoc during the first half. His ability to float into space and express himself while on the ball was a real problem for Slavia.

However, his indecisiveness also proved a tad frustrating for Arsenal as at times, he was rather stodgy in his play. Both goals came following clinical and slick moves. There was no hesitance.

Eze tried a few tricks and flicks but Gabriel seemed to be ordering him to release the ball and move things quicker. It showcased the Brazilian's leadership qualities once again because usually, the first thought and action after a goal would be to praise the team's attackers.

Gabriel evidently wanted more out of Eze and when you watch the latter, there is so much raw ability and natural skill - it's hard to wonder why he does not grab more games by the scruff of the neck.

He was decent enough at Fortuna Arena and numbers wise, it was one of his most positive displays of the campaign thus far. He had the most touches of any player in the opposition box (six) and also completed the most dribbles (four). Eze also still has two goals in his last three Champions League appearances.
