Former Warrington Wolves prop lands NRL lifeline after ill-disciplined UK spell

An NRL return is on the cards for former Warrington Wolves prop Zane Musgrove, with Brisbane Broncos offering him a lifeline to resurrect his first-grade career.

Musgrove arrived on UK shores in 2024 and made 38 appearances for the club across two seasons.

He would be released by the Wolves part-way through 2025 to join Oldham, however, he lasted just three games before being suspended for eight matches after using offensive and discriminatory language.

Musgrove’s off-field issues date back to 2018, when he was handed an eight-month suspension for an indecent assault charge. In 2023, Musgrove departed the St George Illawarra Dragons earlier than expected following a drunken altercation with Mikaele Ravalawa.

However, the Broncos are now prepared to give the 30-year-old a chance to save his career, with boss Michael Maguire keen to work with the forward once again.

Musgrove spent the 2026 season at the Burleigh Bears, but has been offered a train-and-trial deal by the 2025 Grand Final winners over the pre-season.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Brisbane chief Troy Thomson confirmed that the contract had been agreed, and that they are willing to give him another chance.

“We can only judge him on what he will do for us, and we’ll see how he trains and performs,” Thomson said.

“We have quite a number of young players in our squad, so Zane’s age and experience will be helpful.

“We’ll see how he goes.”
