5 managers linked with Man Utd job as Liverpool clash on horizon

Liverpool will take on Manchester United next month, as rivalries are renewed once again, but there may be a change in the dugout before that fixture takes place

The fixtures continue to roll in thick and fast in the Premier League, with another three sets of games between now and the next international break in November.

Waiting beyond that two-week stoppage is a clash between Liverpool and Manchester United that will see the rivalry renewed once again, with little love lost between the two fan bases over the years. For both teams this season, there has been a change in strategy, with managerial hires made to try to correct the charted course, following recent struggles.

Liverpool's start under Andoni Iraola this season has been relatively positive, as he looks to install his style of play into the players. As for Michael Carrick and Manchester United, there has been a failure to pick up where the side left off when he finished his interim spell at the end of the last campaign.

While the former has seemingly bought himself some time at Anfield, the latter is facing some serious pressure on his place in the dugout at Old Trafford. That could prompt a change just before Liverpool faces off with United, as links surrounding potential replacements for Carrick have already begun to emerge in the media.

The first of those has been Julian Nagelsmann, as The Telegraph reports that the former Germany head coach is viewed as a leading candidate if a change is made. It's added that the 39-year-old would like to join United, should the role be offered to him.

Nagelsmann isn't alone in being linked with the hot seat at Old Trafford, as TalkSPORT has claimed that Eddie Howe is another potential candidate.

The English coach has been out of work since leaving Newcastle in the summer, ending his time with the club in a tenure that guided them to the EFL Cup and several Champions League qualifications.

Another two options have then emerged through reporting from The Athletic, which firstly states that Antonio Conte would be interested in a move back to the Premier League. The former Chelsea and Tottenham boss would want reassurances about his authority with the team, which would play a key role in his management style.

The same report states that Aston Villa coach Unai Emery is well thought of, but the level of control he would want may not fit the vision of the club.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is another who has been linked, following an impressive job he has done and continues to do on the south coast. While he is gearing his team up to face Liverpool this weekend, with the Seagulls third in the Premier League, talkSPORT reports that the German coach wouldn't be open to the job, effectively ruling him out of contention.

It's unclear whether United will decide to make a change in the next month, with that Liverpool game on the horizon, and plenty of options seemingly emerging.

That could make it tricky for the Reds, not only dealing with the potential uptick in form and changes that a new manager would bring, but if a change is made late, then it may require a quick change of plans for the game.

There are three more league games before the two teams meet, which could change Carrick's fortunes. However, there also seems to be a chance that change could be imminent for the Red Devils.
