Bradley Barcola addresses Mohamed Salah 'pressure' in message to Liverpool doubters

Liverpool star Bradley Barcola is still settling into life on Merseyside, as he was asked about the pressure of succeeding Mohamed Salah as one of the key players in the frontline

Bradley Barcola has claimed that he doesn't feel any pressure in being the successor to Mohamed Salah in the Liverpool frontline, while claiming that fans haven't seen the best from him yet.

The 24-year-old moved to Anfield in the summer from PSG, with a fee worth up to roughly $166 million paid to land the Frenchman as the next high-profile addition in the frontline. So far, Barcola has scored three goals, all of which came in an impressive hat-trick against LASK in the Champions League, along with two assists to his name in the Premier League.

Having injected some pace and quality in the forward ranks, Liverpool will be hoping that the winger can begin to consistently turn promising opportunities into output that can turn the tide in matches, with such a huge transfer fee certainly suggesting that there is confidence he can do just that.

With the exit of Salah in the summer bringing about an end of an era, many have looked to Barcola, who may be his successor in stature, even if he isn't a direct replacement on the right flank.

The pacey forward was asked about the pressure he could feel from being given such a tough act to follow, along with the huge price tag, as he looks to settle into life at Liverpool. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "First of all, I wasn't the one who decided the transfer fee, so that's not been my problem.

"And regarding Mo Salah, he's a legend here. A huge one. He's done big things here and for that I have an enormous respect for him. But it's not pressure for me at all.

"I'm not Mohamed Salah, so I'm going to try to contribute whatever I can to the club and make my own mark on its history. I don't feel any pressure about that."

It certainly suggests that Barcola has looked to join Liverpool with the freedom to play his own game, rather than trying to immediately replicate the success of those who came before him.

Considering the attacking talent available, one of the key talking points early on in the Andoni Iraola reign has been the lack of chances being created.

The Reds have struggled to find a consistent route to goal, even if results have been largely positive, with the onus on the star-studded frontline to find the answers to those difficulties.

While Barcola has shown glimpses of the quality needed to be the one who will drive the team forward, he has suggested there is plenty more to come. "No, I don't think I'm at my best yet," he added. "You still haven't seen the best version of me.

"On top of that, we're working with my team-mates so that they can make the most of my strengths. So yes, I think once we really develop that understanding, things will get much better. And I think things are improving all the time. People are beginning to understand my style of play much better. I think it's going much better."

With some important matches on the horizon, such as Manchester United and Everton after the international break, there may be no better time for Barcola to step up and show his quality for the Reds. It remains to be seen whether he can do it, but there is clearly some self-belief that he can hit another level.
